Reality

We think of reality as the underlying character of the world. Western thought and the project of science has in large part been the attempt to describe this underlying reality. Lawson argues however that this is a project that cannot succeed and we instead need to give up the very idea that reality is something which might be uncovered or definitively described. Reality is a theological notion in the sense that it proposes that there is an ultimate state of things which explains all of our experience. Instead Lawson proposes that we think of the world not as thing or combination of things, or a state of affairs, but as a space of unlimited potential.
